Awning Advice

Hi

Now that I've successfully got the end of my first year with a caravan (just getting ready now for the new season), I'm looking to upgrade my rather naff porch awning with a Dorema Daytona. However, I'd like some advice on which size to get.

My van is a 1998 Abbey GTS Vogue 517 and the manufacturer states that the Awning size is 953cm, which would put me at a size 13 Dorema (950-975). However, I've now measured the van twice (string and tape measure) and have determined that the van would appear
to be only 943cm, which would put it as a size 12 (925-950).

Is the discrepancy due to the suspension on the van "sagging" with age, or am I missing something obvious? I measured using the advice from the Jeff Bowen web site (http://www.bowenawnings.co.uk/awnings/measure-awning.html)

The difference between the size 12 & 13 is only £40. However I was thinking of upgrading to the Fibre Tech poles, and that's where the big difference is. Size 12 is £68 and Size 13 is £116!!

Also does anyone know what the approx weight of the size 12 & 13 Dorema Daytona poles in steel are?

Many thanks in advance for your advice.
