Google speed

Sitting here looking at route and times for next week, and Googlemaps says it will take me 3.5 hrs to go from Colchester to Wetherby.  Towing at around 50mph, I think it will take a bit longer than that.

Am I right in thinking that Googlemap works out the route and assumes that the driver will drive at near the speed limit for the roads chosen, ie on a motorway you will be doing 70mph?

If so, can googlemap be asked to work out road times at the speed that you will want to drive at?

I've tried to find out for myself, but the more I look, the less I see.
