A few issues with my van
Hello again,
Ok, I bought a 1999 Sterckeman Legacy de luxe off of someone moving from Germany to England. He decided he didnt want to bring it with him and so I picked it up exteremely cheap. It had been sat in a field for 2 or 3 years and so i knew it would require
some work (or maybe even allot lol).
When I first opened the door I was suprised that it smelt fresh with not even a wif on mould. I knew I would need to get it looked at but was happy for the time being.
Ok so to cut a long story short after testing everything I found.... The fridge burns with a yellow flame so havent used it (well not on gas anyway) I have been told I need to get it serviced so will do that soon.
I have found the wood on the inside front of the van is very soft and i can see signs of mould. When I looked outside it looks as though the seal along the top has been changed but a smaller one has ben used. it isnt wide or long enough and the join is exposed.
There is also what feels like a small crack alog the new seal and the previous owner has used a houshold silicone sealant to seal it. This has started peeling odd and isnt doing anything. I can obviously assume this is where the leak is coming from. At first
I decided to fix it all my self. I cant see it being too dificult however the van is parked on a farm at them moment I dont have anywhere to work on it. The farm wont allow me to and it wont fit in my tiny drive. I took it to a caravan specialist in Bielefeld
and he said I need to supply the original parts or he wont touch it?? Not very helpful at all.
I cant remember any other problems at the moment but I know there are a couple albeit small and not very important.
Has anybody got any advise for me even if it is to scrap it... It doesnt matter if thats what you suggest because I can sell the awning and other accesories that came with the van and make a few quid.
Thanks in advance once again
Dave
