Having used TomTom for a number of years first on HP iPaq then to dedicated TomTom
And on to a later model with facilities for choosing routes and itinerary planing.
This I thought was now due to change for a later model but after trying the present models on offer and being very disappointed with the route planning options I've decided to go for trying some of the free map apps which can be used with phones or iPad.
I am using a app by Scout on an iPad and have been impressed by its ease of use and its functions also it's speed of rerouting when taking a wrong turn, you do need a cellular iPad as Apple only fitted GPS on this model but you can buy a GPS receiver like
Bad Elf which fits into the charging slot and has throughput so you can still charge while fitted.

Dedicated expensive and not user friendly sat navs I think are gradually going to be a thing of the past the free apps which use OSM maps seem up to date and quite user friendly.
Has any one else found a particular good free app who would like to share their experiences ?
