Towcar suggestion

We have a Swift Charisma 560 (MTPLM 1340kg) and I am looking to change my car.  I have looked at the Kia Sportage 2.0 Diesel along with other 4x4 cars such as the Nissan Qashqai.  The trouble is, being quite small (5' short!) I feel a bit lost in these huge
cars.  I hoped the Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI would do the job but it is not really heavy enough and came out with a warning on the outfit matching report. 

I would like somthing that does a reasonable number of miles to the gallon as I have to do a fair amount of travelling each day on the motorway to work and back.

Anyone out there have any suggestions?
