2012 Hyundai Santa Fe Engine Failure

I have a 2012 Santa Fe at around 16K miles. This is the 194BHP 2.2 CRDi engine  with in my case, the 6-speed auto gearbox.

Last week the engine failed in a big way when towing from home to site. 40 miles from home towing a light van - 2-berth Bailey Pegasus Genoa.

Turned out to be a #2 big end failure with shells causing further damage to sump area and valves hit piston due to additional allowed stroke without the shells in place.

All proper servicing carried out and no engine management system warning at all.

All covered under warranty of course, but not a pleasant experience and a ruined holiday.

As there is a spare engine in country, I should get the car back next week, but I imagine that with a new engine I shall have to do the Hyundair recommended 1800 miles "run-in" before towing. That'll take me at least two months, so a ruined early summer for us!

Anyone else had a major problem with this engine?
