What's the Ferrule for?

Optimistically, I’ve just bought a sunshade to go with my Fiamma wind-out awning. There are no instructions on what to do with the pegs, ferrules and cord supplied. I’ve never used this type before. I know that Lord Brakewynde and Richiebuoy are going to
have a field day with this, but here goes: what do I use the ferrule for? It fits inside the hole in the yellow plastic bit, but the cord won't go through the ferrule. Doh!
