Newbie - towbars

hi folks, can anyone help me on what type of towbar to get, i'll be honest i dont have a van yet, but one step at a time. i want get the towbar sorted 1st but dont know which to get, 7 12 12 or 13 pin, whats the difference, and can they all be used if i
needed to tow a trailer aswell as a van.???  any help would be very appriaciated
