Does the Club Mag care what we think ?
I sent an complaint email to the Mag on August 1st & have never received a reply.
So on 6th August I emailed the club who sent it on to the Mag - still no response.
The reason I was contacting the Mag was in the August edition 'epic adventures cartoon strip' in 'kids corner' had what I regard very unwise suggestion that it is safe for children to try & touch / handle wild squirrels. Squirrels are renowned for having
a vicious bite & I think the Mag was very unwise in publishing such content particulary as it is aimed at children.
It seems that they have totally ignored my concerns - I've had no response back at all & having just received the September Mag they have published nothing in there either.
I am most disappointed in the lack of concern by the Mag staff.

DM, while I understand your concerns re lack of feedback I doubt any Child would be capable of catching/touching a wild Squirrel. Most would find it hard to see one due to the noise Children make.

Thats because writers like Beatrice Potter have anthropomorphised squirrels into cuddly squirrel nutkins.
Where as in reality they are just tree rats.
I like to see red ones though but would not attempt to handle one. Grey ones are just vermin.
Tin hat on

Some of the ones in Clumber Park, in the chapel grounds, are so used to people and being fed, that you could easily reach out to try and handle one. Probably a fair chance of getting bitten though, and having watched them demolish acorns, this is probably
best avoided. Plus of course the risk of infection.0 -
There are squirrels in London parks which are so tame they can be stroked, and the OP is right, they are too vicious for small children to be encouraged to handle them. However, hopefully responsible parents will realise this, and children are not likely to be reading the Caravan Club August magazine, I wouldn't think.
But, again I think the OP is right to be concerned about the lack of a reply. I think even a courtesy 'Thank you for your email and we have noted your concerns' would at least acknowledge the fact that it had been 'seen'!

That's nothing Septembers mag just come through the letterbox and in 'Kids Corner', the dog from next doors caravan called 'Fluff' came wandering over off his lead in the darkness to star gaze from a tent, Sirius stuff indeed Obviously the poor dog was just kicked out of the door to do his own thing
Although the above is true, on a more serious note the OP should at least have had an acknowledgment to his Email, although a reply would be expecting a bit much

I saw squirels once at a theme park so used to people that they were climbing onto a push chair to be fed crisps by the child in it so it might happen.
AD, I wouldn't class those as truly wild, more like semi-domesticated. If they are used to Humans & see them as providers of food I doubt they'd bite the hand that feeds them

Like those that encourage herring gulls with chips and then moan because they make off with their 'large cod in batter'.

Did you get an automatic acknowledgement for both your e-mails? If not it might suggest the mails did not get through or perhaps the recipient might be on holiday and not actioned the Out of Office warning? Were the mails addressed to an individual or just
a general e-mail address. If we have this information the CM might be kind enough to pass the information through to the editorial team for you.David

. . . unless it is not feeding them fast enough when they most certainly will.

If we were to cut you in half Dave .... would we see 'Caravan Club' ..... like a stick of Blackpool rock?
I've only ever had a reply from the echeleons of the CC when it suits ... and if you then querie the reply of sorts you get the reply of SFA

All I am trying to be helpful to the OP but clearly needed more detail before passing onto the CM to see if she can help get a reply.
Whether what you get back from the Club is what you want to hear is a different matter but we have to accept they may take a different view which doesn't corresponde with your own. I recently sent a photograph
for a motorhome service point in Germany which I thought would be idea for use on Club sites and which could probably be installed at much less cost than the planned upgrades. The Club thought differently but at least I tried, that is all any of us can do.0 -
My advice would be do not feed them, leave them at a distant, this is the advice I would give for all wild life. The people who write this stuff really should know better. No matter how tame or semi domesticated they appear to be they are annimals of the
wild and should be respected as such0 -
Hi DreamMachine,
I’ve spoken to the Magazine Team, and they have informed me that they have received your email, and they thank you for concern.
The Club would never actively encourage young children to play with wild animals, the story was intended to encourage kindness and helpfulness. I’m sorry that this had been misconstrued and that you hadn’t received a reply sooner.

Write your comments here...Well at least that's something - but an acknowledgement email wouldn't have taken much effort would it !

There was a report in the national press a couple of weeks ago of a mother letting her young son touch a squirrel in a local park because it was soft and sweet looking. However said squirrel and his mates attacked child, and he ended up in A&E . Don't touch
just look.0 -

And look what these writers have done to foxes (and a certain Basil has a lot to answer for. Foxes are vermin as well!

Exactly so. How rude to just ignore a member who took the trouble to write to them.
Once again reinforcing the view that the CC only want to receive correspondence that praises them.

Does the Club Mag care what we think ?
Nope not one jot
Does the Club Mag care what we think ?
Not very much as long as you keep paying your subs and frequenting the sites.

Are we still talking about the squirrels.....
...or the children ?

Foxes are part of our eco system, as are most things that were put on this earth before we evolved to destoy it
Wise words, JVB.......
Fine until the top predators are removed (for whatever reason) then the natural eco system is disrupted and until restored, certain animals need to be controlled.
Not suggesting that the control should consist of chasing them all over the place with dogs by the way.
