Towing 85% car weight ratio recommendation

I understand the long standing recommendation that the weight of the caravan plus load is not greater than 85% of the car weight, but what is peoples' experience with new caravans with much improved safety systems that greatly aid stability when towing,
i.e.

  • AL-KO galvanised steel chassis, braking system and running gear
  • AL-KO ATC Trailer Control System
  • AL-KO AKS 3004 Stabiliser
  • AL-KO shock absorbers

Do these aids out date the weight ratio recommendations, given that the 85% rule has been in place for many years?
