Camping & caravan Club heading for Margam Park
A friend of mine sent me this link: http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/Touring-caravan-camping-site-heading-Margam-Park/story-17799756-detail/story.html
I have pasted in the article below.
The park's heritage features are getting a £2 million new lease of life, thanks largely to a Heritage Lottery Fund, and a new mountain bike trail is set to be created later this year. Now the national Camping and Caravanning Club has put forward a change
of use planning application for a 91-pitch site at the East Lodge end of the park.
The application also includes an access road, bridge, amenity blocks, an office, tractor shed, car park and more.
How much the development is worth is not yet known — but the figure is said to be substantial. Council head of partnership and community development, Russell Ward, said the club would lease the land and either run the site directly or as a franchise.
"Assuming planning consent is granted, we would expect work to start on site this year," he said.
"It should then be up and running by the spring of 2014.
"The proposal is a welcome one, as it fills a gap by providing a serviced site for camping and touring caravans.
"It is a significant enhancement of the tourism offer in Neath Port Talbot, and can also support some of the events we bring to the park.
"There will be benefits in terms of jobs created, but as much as that it's about supporting the county's tourism businesses."
Mr Ward said the touring site, like the heritage improvements and mountain bike trail, was part of a number of developments the council was trying to bring forward in a co-ordinated way.
"It looks like a lot of the ambitions we set out to deliver, we are now delivering on," added Mr Ward.
"I'm delighted about that. It's really good news and a tribute to the hard work of a lot of council staff who have pulled this together."
So it looks like the other Club has beaten our Club to it
