Can someone explain to me why they need a flag on a bleeping great pole? Precisely what is the purpose and benefit? Personally I think they are totally naff and equate to an 'everyone look at me, aren't I great' approach to life. However I accept we are
all different and I am open to persuasion there are positive benefits from such monstrosities (and not to help you find your caravan when drunk, simple answer to that one is dont get drunk). If there are any sites which do not allow them I am keen to know
    where they are!

They're not my thing either, but neither are stickers & badges on the inside of my car, but some like them.

I do not have a flag pole but I wish I had one at the weekend at craigie cc site. Was woken up at 6am with seagulls  on caravan roof as they were scavenging neighbours outside refuge bag.

is this maybe what these flag poles are used for ?

Update on the tasteless flag that has been flying at Trewethett. Last nights storm appears to have taken care of things and the flag was last seen floating away in the direction of Tintagel.  On a slightly less positive note there appear to be several spacially
unaware adults and a group of minors aimlessly wondering around site searching for their caravan

I think it quite sad that once again we descend into the " I don't like it, so lets try to get it banned" syndrome.

I'm not that keen either, (although have been known to fly the Falkland Islands flag between April and July.)  but accept that others might like to fly flags for a variety of reasons.

I certainly would not support any move to ban them.  I think that its called "live and let live!"

Although flag poles and the flying of flags is not in the CC Rules here is a
    potential issue
     as to planning issues.

Looking at it, it seems very unlikely a few flags on a caravan site are going to contravene planning regs so I don't think that is an issue of concern.

For me it's not for the kids finding their way home, but me after one too many sherberts!

Write your comments here...Try my method. I phone my OH as I am leaving the pub. She then stands outside our caravan playing the bagpipes. I just home in on the sound. This way we do not need to annoy people with flags.

For clarity I have not asked for flag poles to be banned and am not suggesting they need planning permission - they don't - although I would like to know of any sites where they
are banned! I personally dislike them - i don't 'get' the need for them and am entitled to my opinion in my dislike of them albeit accept i appear to be in a minority of one (well 2, as SWMBO utterly dislikes them too
and what they signify). Given some of the recent stupidly extreme posts about dogs on CC sites my little rant about flag poles is quite rational!

I'm intrigued to know what flagpoles signify.

We have one. We use it at festivals and occasionally at fairs and rallies. We haven't used it on a site. It signifies nothing but helps us find our van in a haphazard sea of vans and tents.

On our first ever rally there was a lady member who would make you a windsock from a flag in exchange for a donation to the centre charity. We had a flag of St Piran made into a winsock and always flew it on site till it disintegrated last year.

My wife and I are very different on site and, whilst she seems to return from the toilet block each morninhg having made a new friend, I can go all holiday with nothing more than a 'mornin' as I make my way around. But, the windsock certainly got me talking
to the people who would almost always ask what it was-the windsock that is-and resulted in many pleasant converstaions, many when abroad.

A guy on site in France said he could see we were from Cornwall-he was Portugese and had visited Penzance whilst in the Portugeses navy many years before and recalled the flag-but many people mistake it for a Saltire which again has led to amusing conversations.

When the windsock had its chips we changed to a normal St Pirans flag and this year we pitched side by side, in Spain, with friends from Kent who fly a Invicta Flag of Kent. A lady stopped one day and asked where we were from in Cornwall-turns out we had
a lot of common aquiantancies-and explained that she now lives in Kent so was doubly interested.

We would never knowingly fly a flag in such a way that it would be an irritation or annoyance but some of the views expressed in this thread suggest that some would, as has been commented on, simply ban anything they dont like. Well we like flying our flag,
it causes not harm, has brought pleasure to us and others, and will continue to do so.

Whatever the rule was it didn't apply to us when we joined but I have no problem with people using their work vehicle to tow their caravan. Do you?

In principle no, however, it would be dependant on the type of van and what its work purpose is and Im sure that is why the rule was changed to "Warden discression". I dont think anyone would have issue with a clean transit van used by a joiner or electrician. However, if it was some dirty truck dripping the remains of the last load or stinking of its last round of fish delivery that is different. Hence the reason for the warden to decide.

Could you provide a link to where it says that warden's discretion applies please.

With regards to commercial vehicles on site, I have spoken to the Sites team and they have advised that Committees are aware that visitors to Club Sites use all makes of towing vehicle and there is no restriction regarding commercial vans with or without sign writing. However, The Club does not allow vehicles to carry out any business from site or visitors who appear to be touting for business.  There may be occasions when it is necessary to park a vehicle off pitch, because of its size and to preserve the visual amenity of the Club site. These larger vehicles can usually be accommodated on a visitor’s car park or late night arrivals area, if available.

I hope this helps answer your query. Smile

Well we've arrived at Trewethett Farm CCS. As expected the front row pitches are already full so we settled for a pitch at the rear of the site which still provided excellent views of the sea and cliffs on the opposite bay. Unfortunately our view has become
slightly obstructed by one of those god forsaken unsightly flag poles that certain individuals insist on erecting to their caravans. This one has a yellow smiley face licking its lips which I recall from my youth symbolises the use of LCD!! Im pretty sure
the owners are blissfully unaware of this fact but i wish that the club would ban these horrendous rally esq symbols from their club sites.  Anyway, suns shining, BBQ is lit and the beers cold. Rant over Lol...

Hope the SMELL from your BBQ is not blowing accross the site!    Laughing
