Treamble Valley

We will be travelling to Treamble Valley during the school summer holidays, we have never been to this part of Cornwall before and are anxious about the traffic as we don't want to spend the first day of our holiday on the M5 and A30!

I have telephoned the site and have spoken to a lovely warden regarding arriving prior to the 12.00 arrival time and whether there is anywhere to park the 'van whilst we wait for the gates to open.  We usually attempt to arrive on or around this time, but
usually don't have the southbound holiday traffic on a Saturday to deal with so this is a first to us.  She has advised us that this happens alot to their site and there is a grass area where people start arriving in the small hours of the morning and park
up.  The wardens then come out in the morning and hand out maps for people to familiarise themselves with the site and they start to let caravans in at 12.00.

I'm very happy with this as it seems a sensible solution for those travelling a distance.  We, however, have never done anything like this before.  Has anyone else?  If we arrived in the small hours, would we just put the steadies down whilst still hitched
to the car and bed down for the night?  What is the etiquette?

Thank you

Hi, Diane. There's another thread running which might be of interest.

    http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/community/discussions/sites-touring/uk-sites-touring/A30-roadworks-near-Bodmin-help-please/rt/1492974/?p=0

As for etiquette, I doubt any exists as arriving early and parking outside as you describe is a first in my experience and most sites wouldn't have the space. I would wait and see what others have done when you get there.

There is a new service area on the A30 at Victoria, Roche just west of the roadworks which might provide an alternative stopping place.

Oooh, a Club site with a narrow approach road where the wardens actually encourage folks to arrive before  12 noon regardless of anyone leaving in the morning. Whatever next? Flying pigs?

It happens at Hillhead also, the wardens on most of the west country cc sites are very up to speed with members arriving in the early hours to miss the M5 holiday traffic, make bed up before leving home  just pull in jacks down, head down ,till woken by others noiseWink

But why don't the wardens  be even more proactive and let them in when space allows before 12.00

How do we know they do not if the pitches are prepared after they are vacated, lots off site wardens use their "descretion"

We've been a few times to treamble and at the top of the site is a really big field that runs down to reception people start arriving early we did it last year just get there park up put back steadies down and leave van attached to car and go for nap yoU
won't be alone. Think about 11am warden came and said to have a look round site and pick a pitch before you drive down be prepared for uphill walk back to car then everyone is asked to drive down in order they arrived simple ! You don't disturb anyone as it
is well away from pitches have a great time site and area are lovely we love it .

Thank your for that Chrisses.  Can i ask, is it obvious where to go when you arrive as we were thinking of leaving home at 9ish which would mean a 2am arrival and I would hate to arrive and not know where to go. The warden said people arrive from midnight
    onward!
