Insurance anomaly

My Motorhome insurance is up for renewal and I have been shopping around for the best deal.

I have 12 months no claim from my current insurer , bought the van last June, and I found an insurer who quoted me £232.09 odd for fully comp cover. Using that figure I accessed other sites including the Caravan Club's recommended insurers and sure enough
they beat that quote with a figure of £232.04. I was about to accept the deal when I re-read the small print and lo and behold the CC insurers wanted to know what my present insurers were quoting me.

I completed the online form with the correct figure and sure enough the quote turned out to be 1p better than the £366odd 'renewal' figure

I telephoned CC's insurers who said they were unable to match the lower quote and that they could only beat my renewal price which was some £130 odd more.

What I do not understand is how they were quite willing to beat the £232 figure but when I told them that was a 'quote' and not 'renewal' figure they baulked and said it was not their policy to match the 'lowest' quotes obtained.

I had particularly wanted to insure with the Caravan Club but will now take up the £232 offer and next year return to the CC for another quote - let's see if they can beat that?
