Brake lights not working

Hi can anyone help we have a Audi A6 with a brand new dedicated towing system installed and a SterlingEuropa 550 caravan.  the brake lights have been dodgy on our first couple of trips but now every time we hook the caravan up the brake light warning comes
up and the lights don't work.  the towbar company have checked their system and all is ok on the car and have changed and coded the relay  and the caravan company have checked the lights which work fine.  we hitch up and the lights dont work.  we have cleaned
the lights and checked the earth which work ok.  at a total loss and have just had to cancel a weekend away. any idea?
