Another Insurance question

I've just had a thought!
Our caravan like many others is insured "new for old" which I understand that in the event of the caravan being stolen or written off whilst towing, we will receive the value of a new one
My question is this - if the caravan is written off by another vehicle whilst towing, surely they would only be liable for replacing the value of the caravan at todays value. Would I then have to claim off my caravan insurance policy to achieve "new for
old".
Would this then affect the cost of my new policy when I am the innocent party?
Wildwood, it's over to you
