Supermarket diesel
I have a 2010 Nissan Xtrail 2.0ltr dCi which I bought in March 2014. I previously owned a 2005 Xtrail 2.2dCi for eight years. Two weeks ago I bought some diesel from a local supermarket because it was the cheapest around. Within two days a yellow light appeared on the dashboard which turned out to be a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) warning light. This warns the user that the filter is blocked by soot from the fuel. The solution was to drive the car along the motorway until it burns off the soot and the light goes out. I done this but it didn't work. On the contrary an engine management light came on and the handbook stated that it had to be taken to my Nissan dealer (I never had this trouble with my old Xtrail in eight years as it was not fitted with DPF). £220 later I was given the car back and told the next time to drive the car, in fourth gear, on the motorway at 70mph with the headlights and air conditioning on until the light goes out but to save future problems I should do this once a week (seems expensive all round). The dealer also enquired as to which fuel I bought and I told them I bought it from the supermarket. They advised me that this fuel is not good quality and that in future I should buy from a fuel chain garage i.e. Shell, B.P. etc. What does anyone else think about this.
