Help: travel from North Wales to South Wales

Hi there - I wonder if anyone has travelled from North Wales (Wrexham area) down to St Davids in Pembrokeshire (site 259), and what they recommend as a good route towing a caravan? I was initially considering the A494 through Bala, and then connecting with
the A487 at Dolgellau and keeping on this route all the way down to Fishguard. I am a single Mum, and just want to ensure I get the family to their holiday safely. Thank you for any replies/thoughts
