A82 Loch Lomond alternative route

Hi - I'm at North Ledaig at the moment and will be heading back South tomorrow. On the way up we found the A82 passed Loch Lomond very narrow and were stuck behind another caravan who'd crashed into the wall when an oncoming HGV forced him off. 

So I'm wondering whether anyone's used an alternative route South like A814 passed Helensburgh? Or is that worse?
