Noisy CC sites

Following on from the current discussion about the noise at Chester Fair Oaks, it might be a good idea if members could assist in compiling a list of other noisy sites. One thing that drives us mad is constant road noise, the occasional vehicle is OK

Obviously noise is subjective and sometimes can be worse on parts of a site. I'll start the ball rolling with

Norfolk Broads CC Site

I'll nominate Troutbeck head in Cumbria. This site is next to an activity centre. You get the noise of quad bikes and motor bikes all day from 9am until 6pm. Then you get the farmer driving around on one for the rest of the evening. The access road to the farm is busy all evening. We had the noise like people dropping refuse skips at 10pm one night. Another night someone rode an off road motorbike around from about 6.30pm until 8.30pm. Not only is there noise from off the site but it seems as though this site is used by families to teach their children how to ride pedal bikes. All day long children of all ages ride around the site, many exceeding the site speed limit of 5mph. They come at you from all directions and have very little regard for your safety. Will not use this site again as it certainly is not one to pick for a quiet holiday.

Henley on Thames as i remember from a few years back some of the traffic went past the site way over the speed limit and it seemed constant throughout the day.

I wonder where/who he is now? cool

PS. I've not found the Norfolk Broads site noisy other than a little traffic noise by the entrance.

    yes, wonder where indeed.

Also, we stayed there for a few weeks in high summer and I didn't notice any undue noise. Its a quiet road that day or evening when we walked along it to the waterway was mostly quiet and certainly was easy to cross.

We won't stop at Lady Margarets Park anymore as we find the drone from the factory at Kronespan a nuisance and the chocolate factory seems to be operating longer hours, plus we both find the pervading smell off putting.

I know many disagree but thats our opinion.

We must be more noise tolerant than some, because our hearing is certainly OK. Have not come across any sites to complain about so far. I can't say we found the factory at LMP a particular problem. Off to Gatwick for the first time shortly, I would imagine that could be noisy. Although, if you pick a site half a mile from the main runway 🛫🛬 of a major airport, you can hardly complain.😀

I just think it's the type of noise. We've stayed at Crystal Palace, Abbey Wood, Denham and York and found sleeping no problems, the same when we stay in hotels in cities. They reach a point where there is a quietness. Whereas constant noise from a motorway such as Chester or Maidstone keeps me awake. I never used to uave a problem at LMP but the last 2 occasions have been troublesome for us.

I miss Burts....he had some good things to say......apart from his dislike of dogs.

Broadway has a very busy road at one side and a very noisy road at the other.

Burt did not have a dislike of dogs ,but a dislike of owners who didn't control their dogs

Morton can be noisy on the road side of the site

Strathclyde Country Park CC site Glasgow is the worst we have experienced regarding traffic noise, but then given its location at the junction of a motorway and a major duelled A road it's not surprising really.

only used as an overnight stopover though so bearable.

living on a busy main road which is non stop morning noon and night so bad I've had to change bedrooms I tend to find most sites quiet but then I tend to stay on CAMC that are not near a main road however one thing that I find annoying is flashing lights round the awning I like to see caravans dressed up but not lights that flash all the time !!

Hargill house site is hard up against the A66 with wagons thundering past 24/7.

Burrs country park site has the sounds of police car sirens, especially in the evening.

Burrs was noisy when I stayed. I didn't notice traffic so much as railway engineering works from 7am. Due to visiting in school holidays I pitched just off the main site road (cycle race track) only to find the following sunny day I was backed onto the very full and noisy beer garden for the pub. This noise was sometimes drowned out by the wardens tree strimmer/chain saw.

A relaxing site it is not.

The Brown Cow at Burrs can be a bit of a "wild west saloon" at times 😂

I find it quite entertaining, but I cut my drinking teeth in the pubs round Hull 😉

Do you call a rookery in the middle of a site noisy? St Davids has a large rookery bang in the middle of the site. They are noisy at this time of year and tend to lave deposits on your outfits.
