I really don't know why Three don't allow 'tethering' (or 'personal hotspot') to be used on their phones abroad. Their data sims (as used in a mifi) can be used abroad and is, technically, a tethering device. Seems illogical.
Maybe they'll change it some day......but it will only be for new customers, no doubt.
Incidently, we found that the Three mifi got a far stronger signal while in France, than either of our phones (also both on Three).
Couldn't agree more, especially as I was sold a contract having been told over and over by the shop staff that tethering abroad was okay. It was not until the first day in France I found it was not true. Currently running a formal dispute with them and
Court is looming closer .Good luck with that, DD......hope you win.
I agree that their web site is very unclear on many things. I get the impression that it's been written piece-meal and no-one has ever stood back and looked at it as a customer sees it.
As a company, I think Three are good and offer a generally good product (other than the lack of tethering abroad) but their two big failings are:
They care more about new customers than existing customers.
Their web site is confusing.

Have ordered a 3 preloaded data sim for our next trip, the 12 month 12GB one, from mymemory.com. £22.
Seems a good deal, will cover us to use when on CLs and CC sites, so save the cost of the CC wifi too, and of course to use abroad. We are away 2 days under the 2 months,so should be fine, if we can get a signal!!
Kjell, Suggest you activate the sim whilst still in UK. I have one sim still with 10MB left, and will activate another just before we go away this winter. I have never failed to get a good '3' signal in UK .... though I do use an externally mounted dongle into an Alfa R36 router. It will be interesting to compare coverage in Spain.
Edit: Yes, did fail to get a signal once ... at Beddgelert!

The main problem with Three for us travellers seems to be that their rules suggest anyone, whether PAYG or Contract, cannot use their phones abroad in any FAH country for more than 2 months in any 12 month period or they will cut you off leaving you with
no phone and no roaming. Yet if you are in another country that is not a FAH one you have no cut off no matter how long you are there, you just pay the roaming charges. How can that be legal I ask myself if you have the credit to pay the international roaming
charges. I am trying to get full information & implications from Three via a complaint and yes I have found their website to be poor, no definitions, inconsistant and their telephone advisors and shop staff all appear to be confused and do not know the rules.
