It's not British industry that lets people down, the article that you refer to is on the shelf, it's the supplier that wants to make a large profit, and not just in the caravan industry. My van is a 2011 van and it's already got damp, alright it's under
warranty but, why do some vans get damp so quickly. That's industry letting us down.

I agree, the supplier has let you down. On the whole if we order something from the UK or elsewhere we are impressed by the speed of service. Glad you got what you wanted!

The UK supplier may have been about to order it from the Dutch company, so the difference is for their admin.

And we, potentially, may exit Europe?

Even if we exit the EU, they are still there to deal with.

I love dealing with the Germans & Dutch inparticular.

You deal with people who know their job & they do it well.

Why is it when I want the same level of service here, I just  expect the experience to be feeble. In fairness, sometimes shocked with good service in the UK, but have no quarms dealing with EU.

Well I have to praise ebay sellers, yes business ones, ordered something beofre Christmas arrived ahead of due dat.  Ordered something yesterday, email to say they had been despatched and a tracking number quoted within the hour.

I agree we can be let down here, but in this case praise where praise is due.

I ordered a store/discount card on Mon at around 1 o'clock .... it was posted through the door the following morning. I've done the same for some car spares too .... I couldn't have driven to collect them any faster than the service I recieved.

In the past we have had some stuff delivered from the USA and Russia quicker than similar products available in this country.

I think some are being a bit hard on British suppliers. In almost all cases I have been very impressed with the level of service when I have ordered items on the Internet. Yes there has been the odd problem, but I am sure those in Europe are not exempt from
those. We are as a race unusually keen to do ourselves down.

We have some friends who have a house in france and they take things from the uk, as they say to have anything delivered from french suppliers is a nightmare,

ps, its was on the market last time we spoke,as they were getting to the stage in life when the help they will need is easier to access here

I must admit that our personal experience of companies who mainly rely on the internet for their business are really geared up for quick efficient service but those where you ring a shop or store for a part are stuck in a time warp, around 1950. The delivery
people, again generally, are very good including Royal Mail. This Xmas everything that was ordered online arrived on time whilst the only trouble we had was for an item being delivered to a shop for collection. Different attitudes.

I think the heading of the thread is unfair. I may start another thread "Why do people keep knocking British Industry?"

Personally, think British Industry is pretty good.

I have had some shocking service in France and Spain though.

With major stockists like Screwfix, Europarts etc. the retail business has been turned on its head. Overnight delivery to your local store and fantastic levels of service. They have set the bar very high and other retailers have responded. Nothing to feel
    gloomy about in the UK.

I needed an accessory for our MH before this weekend.  On Monday morning I rang a UK supplier, yes it was in stock and could be delivered next week but not sure when – cost £175 incl delivery.

I then email a Dutch supplier, yes it was in stock and could be delivered Wednesday – cost €169.50 incl delivery (£125).  I placed my order receive an email about an hour later saying it had been despatched.  Last night (Tuesday) received a mail to say it
would be delivered today and that I would receive another email telling me when.  Second email today (Wednesday) saying it would arrive between 0915-1015 hours.  0929 hours it arrived.  I saved £45, got it quickly, I’m a happy bunny, and will use Memo-Europe
again.  Now I'm off to fit it Smile.

Note to reader, mods, CT managers, et al.  As the OP I have no problem if this thread subject drifts, if it does it may make it more interesting Smile.

Write your comments here...I too have received good service from suppliers in Germany and many within UK. Interesting to note that the latter part of the post indicates that UK delivery agents were appraising you of transport progress eithe directly or via
your original supplier. I have also waited weeks for foreign suppliers to honout their promises.

I wonder why in that case JLP is up 20% in on-line sales and M&S up 40%, or are they the exception?

Not sure about why the price difference but the problem with thr UK company service seems to be they did not know their delivery companies delivery ability. If you are supplying goods surely this is essential.
