Charger died after 4¼ years - but only 53 week use
I'd be grateful for some advice.
The battery charger in my Coachman caravan packed up whilst we were on holiday in June. The unit had to be replaced at a cost of around £170 including labour.
The van was bought new in March 2009, so was 4¼ years old. The warranty for this item is 3 years.
As our van is stored on a storage site with electric hook-up available, the only time the charger has been plugged in and running is when we are away, with EHU. We have calculated that this has been for 53 weeks since we bought the van.
It seems to me that an integral element of a caravan such as a charger should last for more than 1 years' use, which is effectively what the charger has had.
I wrote to Coachmen asking for reimbursement of the replacement cost, but received a reply saying that the warranty had expited and there was nothing they could do.
I have a feeling that goods should be sold "fit for purpose" and that this implies a reasonable life.
What do others think? Should I pursue this ? £170 is a fair bit of cash. But I don't want to fall out with Coachman - this is the best van we have ever owned.
Would be grateful for any thoughts.
Thanks
