Any tips or advice?

That's a big trip, are you hoping to do it all in one go, will 6-8 months be long enough to enjoy and take time off in all the different places?

Sounds rather a nice idea. As has been said a lot of research will be required. Might be an idea as a first step to jot down the must see places and plot those on a map. Then you can join the dots so to speak with other interesting places. You could think
of Wales/Ireland/part of Scotland on one trip and the rest during the other one.

In your research give some thought to the weather pattern in Scotland and the likelihood of midge infestation! Late Spring and early Autumn can be better than Summer - we often notice that the first week in May can be particularly good and the midge hatch
won't have started in earnest! Think also of the relative scarcity of formal campsites but that in Scotland wild camping is legal provided you respect the countryside. Also if you are in to wild swimming there are a number of Scottish lochs and rivers where
you can enjoy a dip - there are books on wild swimming in Scotland and throughout the UK; have a search on Amazon if that interests you. You might also think of exploring some of the islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides - Caledonian McBrayne ferries offer
a HopScotch scheme whereby you can ferry-hop betwewen islands. Above all enjoy our wonderful Scottish lochs, glens and mountains whatever the weather. Smile

I’m not sure what you have in mind by your desire to explore the coast, Bob. At least you have set yourself a good amount of time for both the planning and execution.

Bear in mind that exploration of the coastline itself will take a lot of time, as there is a lot of it (10,000+ miles) and some is rather inaccessible. And, while you’re at it, I’d allow time for visiting other attractions that you’ll pass on your way.

Apologies I didn't read the OP correctly, I didn't take on board the two year bit! I suppose the busy times for finding sites will be in the school holidays so popular areas might need some forward booking.

Bluepig    Wild camping may not be illegal in Scotland but wild Motorhoming is ! Camping only refers to tents ! Kellysmum

Forget the summer months when the schools have holidays.

Go from  March till beginning of July  and then Sept. and Oct. Much cheaper and less busy.
