Roof Patch

I have just removed a satellite dish from my van, and there is a 40mm dia hole where the pole went through. I was thinking of sticking an aluminium patch on it with non-setting sealant, but I would be grateful for any advice as to whether this is adequate,
or indeed any other ideas.
