Underfloor LPG tank on ferries

Just taken delivery of an Autosleeper van conversion with an underfloor LPG tank. You have to lie under the vehicle and remove a plastic cover to operate the gas outlet valve. The question is when you use ferries does this valve have to be turned off or
can you just turn off the valves in the cupboards inside the van?
