Any tips to stop bike racks scratching paint work

For some unkown reason my bike rack has started scratch the paint work.I.ve checked rubbers and boot lid and they areclean rack tigthen as usual. It seems worse due some of the sleeping policeman on club sites.Any tips would be helpful i have looked at swan
neck rack but unfortunaley they wont fit my vehicle and dont really want to put them on the roof
