Car insurance

Having an Australian driver's licence is a nightmare in England, to get insurance.

Nobody would touch me, despite me being a heavy vehicle driver nearly all my life, driving lorries and artics.

My Aussie licence is expensive to get insurance for my Subaru Forester 2006 2.5 litre petrol 4 cylinder car.

My Australian licence runs out on 1st June, so I'm thinking of swapping it for a British licence. I fly in on 2nd May, and before it expires, I could swap it for a new one. The DVLA will take in my old Australian licence. Admittedly, I won't be able to drive anything over 3.5 tons all up, but my insurance won't be 625 Pounds a year. . . . more like 250 Pounds.

Trouble is, last time I tried to get insurance whilst pretending to be a "local", the company would only insure me for up to 60 days in a year pulling my caravan around Britain, which doesn't really cover me for the full four or five months' duration that I'm on the road there.

How do you lot manage to stay insured, because your travels within a 12 month period must well exceed 60 days a year with your caravan / motorhome???

This is really puzzling to me.

What insurance company will cover me for more than 60 days a year "on holiday".

I was thinking of swapping my Aussie licence for a new one using my sister's address in south London.
