Touring The Western Isles

I am planning to tour Skye and the Outer Hebrides and would welcome any advice or suggestions from members who have done so. My original plan was to take my caravan to the islands but I understand that sites are few in number and I am now thinking it may
be better to leave the van on the mainland (presumably on a recognised site to satisfy insurance conditions) and use B&B's. Thanks.
