Checking out a brand new caravan
We are buying a demo model Bailey Cartagena series 2.
"KjellNN" was cautious about paying all the money over before taking delivery, leaving some back until completely satisfied that what you saw is what you get.
I've taken a photo of the VIN number of the caravan on display at the Adelaide Camping & Caravanning Show two weeks ago, when we saw it, wife fell in love with it, paid $1 000 by debit card as a down payment.
Since then, a few more payments have gone thro between our bank account and their bank account. We shall make the last $25 000 payment this week to pay out the balance.
I see one hitch in Australia, compared to Britain.
Down Under, caravans have their own number plate (on the back) separate from your vehicle towing. In South Australia, we also pay A$69 a year road tax (registration). Thankfully, there is no MoT to worry about.
Now . . . . if we don't pay all the balance out, then how does the caravan company register the caravan for the road, put a fixed number plate on the caravan and make it fit for road so that I can tow it home that day?
Also, what sort of problems have you folks had in the past with picking new caravans up? What should I look for??? . . . . checking that the stove, lights, water pump work?
