Caravan width - advice please

We are about to enter the world of caravaning for the first time and are in the process of choosing a van. My husband (Ian) is a confident driver but is concerned about the width. We are considering vans up to 230/232cm wide. We are likely to be towing on
small roads in the UK and Europe. Any thoughts/advice, gratefully received. Thanks.
