Astra GTC v Small/med SUV
Hi All! We have been towing our 2 berth Bailey Ranger (MTPLM of 1043kg) with our Astra 1.7CDTi (simply because that's the car we had when the caravn was bought). We've not really had problems but then we only ever go local and not more than approx 20 miles!
Looking for a new car and I wondered what people's thoughts were on carrying on with a similar newer version of mine (2.0ltr Astra GTC)? Another option would be a small(ish) SUV - prefer the Vauxhall Mokka but would consider Kia Sportage or Nissan Qashqai.
I have reservations about the height and practicality of the astra but reservations about the engine size of the Mokka and these SUVs with smaller engines.
I do a fair few miles so definitely don't want a gas guzzler and I don't really want the fact we have a caravan to dictate why I'd go for a certain car when we don't go far or often (i.e. I'd probably prefer the GTC as a new car but could be persuaded otherwise
if information led me to believe it was impractical / unsafe to tow with) .
Pros and cons of the GTC v the small SUVs from you guys would really help in my decision making.
Thanks in advance.

if you like driving a drivers car go for the GTC, get the twin turbo diesel version and enjoy! Don't get hung up on the CC matching service, it is often simply based on incorrect data. Try Towcar as an alternative which also has towing reviews from car owners.

I have a family member who owns a Qashqai 1.5 diesel who regularly gets 60mpg, not towing as they don't own a C/van. I think it would be a difficult ask to get a drivers car that can comfortably tug a C/van to be honest, good luck with your quest Carrell

Cheers all. I've used the match service and as far as that goes any of them are ok other than the bhp/T obviously being less on the lesser engines. I just wondered if there was any big reason not to go for the 'drivers' car but it seems maybe not
A few test drives may be in order to help the decision.
Cheers x
