I think they are £140 now, but a good deal even at this price, we went when it was £115, and enjoyed every minute of it, you have to select a central site as not to travel the same roads every day

Phil, we used Red Funnel a couple of years ago and the offer was for 5 nights site fees and crossing for about £150 but it's now less. Enjoyed our stay as there's plenty to see on the island. Here's the link :-  http://www.redfunnel.co.uk/isle-of-wight-holidays/camping/

Copy and paste into your server if it won't open for you.

Depend when you want to go Red Funnel offers alter between low and med seasons and are not normally available peak times now, and not available fridays deps, they are about £240 for ten nights,  Give the club a ring as we found a good deal via Wight link through them last year staying at Southlands,i think we paid about £120 plus site fees

We've done Southlands twice and enjoed both times.  It's a large site in sort of two halves, one hardstanding the other grass and more divided, one facilities block.  We have always phoned the site/club direct and they have sorted out our stay and ferry
crossings.  It is not a cheap piece of water to cross but it is worth it.  If you land at Cowes and immediately you leave the dock area there is a Waitrose, great for stocking up before heading to site.

We went to Southands in 2013 and thought it a very nice site. Even for motorhomers who don't want to take their vans off site there is a reasonable bus service a not too long a walk from the site. There is a pub that does meals even nearer. We booked our Red Funnel ferry through the Club and got a discount because we had also booked the site. Just one word of caution. The IOW has a few festivals during the summer months and if this is not your thing it might be an idea to check the dates of these festivals as they tend to make the ferries very busy.

We went to Southlands last September and it poured down most of the time!. We used Red Funnel but found the ferry terminals very cramped, not helped at Southampton by the returning festival goers [DK is right].

Southlands is a lovely site but we were unimpressed with the IOW generally - Osbourne House a great day out - and whilst the Red Funnel ship and staff were excellent, we don't want to experience the ferry terminals again. We walked from the site to Southlands
and the supermarket. Lovely pub in Newchurch within a mile walking distance but best to book for what we thought was an excellent meal.

Southlands for us and red funnel, booked through the clubs ferry booking service it is a lot cheaper this way than booking direct with red funnel. IOW a lovely place rain or shine, other site at Yarmouth has pool and club house I believe this might suit
families. The ferries have always seemed fine to us for the length of time on board they also have a specific area for people with dogs, like us. Their is also a very nice CL near to the Southlands site it has full service pitches for around £14 per night.
The moment about festivals is relevant it certainly affects the ferry availability and comfort at terminal and on board, I found mixing with the festival goers very interesting.

Hope this helps sure you will enjoy the holiday

I love your photo of Southlands site DK. But isn't that just the absolute ultimate nadir of landscape design from this Club? Why do they do it? Which architects do they employ?

The CC took over a commercial site, the photo from DK is in the new section, most of the site is leafy and green with lots of hedging. It's very exposed so it needs the hedging but we found it a bit out of the way with our M/H...other sites are available.Wink

I rather like it, clean and neat. As Brue points out there are alternatives if you prefer grass. To me a campsite is a base to explore the area.

I've just booked a return crossing to The Isle of Wight (2 weeks), through the Club as I thought I'd get 15percent discount. However it turns out that unless you're booking a main site, you don't get the full discount, I got about half which worked out at
£11 instead of £23 I was expecting. I know every little helps, but I was kept hanging on for ages because the girl in the office needed to phone Red Funnel whilst keeping me hanging on for around 20 minutes. I hung up and called again to ask if someone could
call me back, which they did. Why can't we book online ourselves and key in our membership number for the discount? I don't think I'll bother again, it's too much hassle. Note I did get a fairly good price from Red Funnel at short notice by checking different
days (£158), which I can do being retired. Wight Link was £100 more expensive, why?

Write your comments here...wight link are usually all ways way more expensive. No idea why and they are all jobsworth. Will nearly alway measure you.  They however do do a caravan special but most time bizarrely it's worked out even more expensive.

Would it not have been cheaper to book a site too?

It's an expensive bit of water to cross, particularly given the relatively short distance. I haven't been to the Island since I sold the yacht.

Use the clubs booking servic for Red funnel Southampton to Cowes we found it significantly cheaper than booking direct, we prefer  Southlands , well worth the effort and extra cost of a ferry
