Private sites and long term occupation

The other week we bookend a couple of nights on our first private site, a 'tranquil' one which was adult only.

It was a beautifully landscaped site, lots of grass, flowers and trees with level pitches, a decent toilet block and hook up, costing £20 a night.

Perfect you might think, but it had a decidedly odd atmosphere.

We were one of 11 units on the site but only 3 of us were 'touring', the rest seemed to be permanent residents. Not only that there were two old Hymers that seemed to have taken root in the corner. Apart from one caravan occupied by a working couple, the rest were single working men who left the site between 6:00 and 7:30 each day.

the result of this was not just a 'tranquil' site but one which was deathly quiet.

I wondered if this was a common situation on small private sites, if it is we will stick to CC or C & CC sites in future, they may not be perfect but at least you have some 'life' around.
