OLD Awning Needs Waterproofing - any ideas?

Hi - we have a lovely Rapido Club 31T (1989) which came with it's original thick canvass awning. We bought the outfit last year and when we put the awning up it was very dirty and had some bad stains (2 or 3 were oil stains) ... AND the damn thing leaked
like a sieve!

Instead of throwing the awning away we decided to try and save it.

Firstly we had to clean it by scrubbing all of the canvas rigorously using a hand brush with washing up liquid and then using an industrial carpet cleaner to vacuum it dry - this worked brilliantly as the vacuum sucked the wet water back through the material
removing 80% of the stains (Great!).

Now I'm wondering if a waterproofing product like
this
would be capable of sealing a canvas (which is 25 years old which has been scrubbed).

To add insult to injury there is a tiny hole in the roof as well (arrgghhh)

But we haven't given up yet, we are intending to patch this and with the water proofing we might get lucky.

As another option we are considering buying a caravan tarp we could peg down over the roof of the awning, which sounds like an easy option?

I know it sounds more trouble than it's worth but it is a nice awning now it's clean (ish) but we're not sure what the chances are of
successfully waterproofing it with an agent or to sling a tarp over it.

What would you do? Tarp over the top or seal it? Or something else we haven't thought of?

Your recommendations/products would be appreciated - sealing agent, tarps etc.

Thanks,
