Seasonal Error?

Walking into the town on Friday we were admiring the display of winter bedding in front gardens, hanging baskets and containers; all looking rather cheery - probably blown to bits and frozen today
. We were rather surprised to see flowers on a flowering cherry - I know it's been unseasonably warm but I thought they'd need
to under go a cool/cold period before they flowered for spring. If it had been tomorrow, they may have decided that sufficent cold had been endured and were ready for spring.
Our winter jasmine is probably the best I've ever seen, very vibrant.
Has anyone else noticed seasonal changes?
