BBQ pipe to caravan gas outlet.

I have bought all the parts to make a 2 metre gas lead for my Weber BBQ to connect directly to the outlet on the caravan. When pushing the tubing onto the nipples do I need to lubricate the inside of the tube before clamping them or is that a no no. Any
other pointers would be much appreciated.
