Hello,

We have just changed to a Skoda octavia tdi pd 2.0 (O9) and we have a bailey ranger 460/4 2008 , Can anyone tell me if this is a good tow match and a legal one.

I have been towing for 4 years so consider my self a expierenced tow driver.

Thanks.

    Hi again,

just a quick update ,  Been on towcar.info and that tells me it is a 72% good match.

Now the bit that concerns me is that last week i phoned CC for a match and they worked it out  as a 86% match.

Who do i believe now ?.

Even if it's 86% it's a good match to me.

86% is perfectly safe for towing and I would not worry either way.

    Hi Balbiri,

Remember also that the quoted 'kerbweights' for Skodas do not include an allowance for a driver. You should therefore add 75kg for a driver to be comparable with other 'kerbweights'.

I have towed for the past 4 years with a Skoda Superb (2010) Estate and it has been extremely stable towing our Coachman 460/2 (MPTLM 1420 kg). I don't think you will have any problems with the Octavia.

    cheers

The 85% guide is responsible for an awful lot of misunderstanding and belief it is some sort of legal ruling. The CC and others need to be much clearer in the wording that it is a guide that is only adopted by the UK. I defy anyone to tell the difference
between 85 and 86%. A badly set up car and van at 80% is more of a danger than a well balanced set up at 90%.

My Skoda Scout was a brilliant tow car. I would have another one tomorrow but my wife found the ride a bit harsh.

Funny you should say that, but she finds the Roady better! The Scout was quite crashy over speed humps, Roadster is a lot better sorted. Which is why I still have the Roady and not the Skoda...result!
