Shower Etiquette

At a site I saw a sign asking me to "mop" the shower after use (which I normally do and am happy to do) but also to close the shower curtain "in the interests of hygiene". I have never understood why it is practice to close the curtain AFTER as opposed to DURING the use of the shower. Can someone explain. Also since cleanliness in the toilet block is a virtue why don't the Club ban outdoor shoes in the showers? Such a ban is widespread in Europe especially in Germany where people use "beach slides" i.e flip flops for the shower.
