Hi.

Im one of your members and I have an interesting question regarding 2nd cars.

This also may be one for a letter in the magazine ???

We currently have a Kia Sorrento and a Ace Jubilee twin axle outfit. Obviously we brought the Kia to drag the caravan due to the weight !

The problem we have is the fuel situation - we probably in the same boat as everyone else on this but I need to ask anyway.

As we not using the caravan every week or like some members, its still being used for the shops, days out, shopping, school run etc and killing us on the fuel.

Its the 2.3 crdi xs model diesel auto so its not small and we have to pay the price in fuel and tax. Example  - Plymouth last week - went on an EBay run as we call it and it cost us £50 to get there and
£50 to get back ! this was without the caravan !!!!

We looking to loose the Kia altogether which means getting rid of the caravan ( sad face )

We just cannot justify the fuel costs any more and it will probably be cheaper go on an all inclusive holiday now abroad !

Does any other member feel this way?

An alternative is taking up an offer that nearly all car dealers are doing. VW for instance are offering us the new VW UP! car. 1 litre engine, group 1 insurance, free insurance for a year. £25 to fill tank.
Tax exempt on bog standard model and £79 deposit £79 per month with option to buy in 4 years. If we take this offer up we can keep the Kia and caravan and just use the Kia when we need to tow.

But then we have an insurance problem. Will the insurance companies do something called "towing/holiday vehicle" ??? if not why not ? is this something the insurance group can start ?

Looking at the bank account we can see "asda fuel"  fills the page of the statement and adding this up its about £250 per month !

We don't fancy the motorhome option either as someone else suggested - yes, good in theory but we like to set up then go out for the day. With 2 little ones its not practical.

I do hope you can help on our conundrum or even print this in the next magazine. Any suggestions will be welcomed with open arms !

Many thanks
