Having read the comments on here about children riding the wrong way round site at york & numerous complaints about people walking across pitches, who actually designs & signs off the site layouts?

Surely if numerous people are cutting through a pitch to get to the washrooms there ought to be one less pitch & a proper footpath?

Prehaps York could ask for a gate out the side of the site directly into the park? would encourage kids to play in a safer area.

We stayed at Barnard Castle a week after it opened - kids were told to cycle one way round the site, trouble is they had to go through the entrance barrier to do a lap!

I currently get involved in urban design & we always try to design to make the "prefered route" the easy option rather than putting barriers to stop people going where we dont want them to go.
