Insuring your car trailer for Motorhoming

I received a renewal notice for our Motorhome and noted it said that "trailers were no longer included in the cover".  On further investigation I was told that my "car transporter" was not considered a "trailer" and had never been covered (I'm sure I asked
about this when taking the policy and was assured it was).

It soon became clear that insuring the "trailer" - replacement about £2000 - would not be easy.  Those Motorhome policies that did cover "car transporter" only gave third party cover.

I found a company that offered me both comprehensive policies together and at a competitive price and I am now contented and covered.

I then contacted the original insurer to tell them to cancel "automatic renewal" and they asked why - when I told them they said they did cover my trailer.....I insisted that I had been told otherwise and after going away to find out they agreed with me!!!!

The problems seem to be that: 1. trailers do not include car transporters; 2. trailers are normally covered only third party; 3. nobody understands this at the brokers/insurance companies.

I hope this has not been too tedious, but if you do pull a car like we do, check your insurance details.  Are we the only ones to panic over such trivia?
