Hard Standing Pitches

Hi, I'm new to Motorhoming and as I've already found out my motorhome does not like soft ground so I like to pitch on hard standing pitches where possible in future. Does anyone have any advice on how to peg down an awning on a hard standing pitch, the selection
of pegs I have will not go into the ground, I've tried steel pegs which only go in about 2" or so. Whats the secret to getting pegs into the ground on hard standings. I have been advised to drill a hole before knocking in the peg but this seems it would be
detremental to the pitch if everyone did this. Please help.
