Steel spacesaver tyres

Has anyone experience of using these when towing a caravan? We are buying a new towcar that comes with one as a spare and wondered if anyone had ever been unfortunate to have a puncture whilst towing, and if so, were they still able to tow to the nearest
garage etc when using one.
