Gas taking a long time to come through (Motorhome)

Hi, 

     We purchased a Motorhome for the first time 3 weeks ago when we are traverling we turn the gas off but when we land at our destanation and switch the gas back on it takes ages to come through half an hour or so. Being newbies we dont really know if
this is normal or not ? Please could somebody help?
