Doggie advice

Our Cavalier puppy , Bramble, sleeps in his crate in the kitchen going in c10 pm until c7 am no problem! 

He loves the van and has been great in it but on our last trip he started to wake between 5 and 6 am, getting earlier as the week wore on, whimpering to come out. After which he would play for 10 mins and then curl up on the bed and go back to sleep! Anyone else had this problem?

We're away next week and would like the early morning rise or should I middle of the night! Guess its like trying to keep a small child in its own bed. Intend to cover his crate to try and kid him it's still dark - we have in the end bathroom which is quite light early on.

Any ideas gratefully received.
