Going away for Christmas

hi everyone! Due to various complicated family issues and the fact we seem to spend christmas Day and Boxing Day just driving around the various family members trying to please them, we are looking to book a few days away over christmas, just me, my new
wife and our two pooches. We live in Suffolk but not really sure where we want to go. We would like a CC site with hard standing, somewhere scenic and with a good dog friendly pub nearby where we could have Christmas Day lunch. Any ideas or suggestions? Ideally
no more than 5 hours away! Thanks!

As Christmas Day lunch  is probably the biggest earner of the year for pubs and invariably fully booked and very busy, I think you will be very fortunate to find one that will allow dogs on that day

I would have thought that that is the one day of the year to leave the dogs in the van so you and others can  enjoy the meal ,without the constant " get down shep".....

I didn't mean taking the dogs in there for Christmas dinner! I meant a dog friendly pub at other times so we could enjoy a drink one evening

How about Moreton in Marsh if that's not too far away. Bang in the middle of the Cotswolds so plenty of scope for walking the dogs, and a 5 minute stroll into the town where there are any number of dog friendly pubs. A nice site at any time of year!

    Is that within the rules?

I'll second that, the Redesdale Arms Hotel accepts dogs, my dog loves their log fire! They may even do so at Christmas. Another alternative is Broadway club site but not aware of dog friendly pubs there although there are several nice ones within walking distance.

I would get and book your pitch fairly promptly. I would imagine sites that are open will fill up for Christmas.

It's the poor dogs that I feel sorry for. Left on their own in the caravan.

What is the difference in leaving a dog at home while you go shopping and leaving the dog in a van while you go out for a meal? My dog is quite at home in the van on his own, he thinks it is his big kennel. Sometimes it is a devil of a job to get him out of it when we get home!

You could try Seacroft club site in Cromer.  They do Christmas lunch and dogs are allowed in the club house at other times.  Plus alot of the pubs and cafes in the town are very dog friendly as is the beach.  Only downside is it's not cheap.

How about Ferry Meadows, Peterborough. Not too far away from you, great dog waking in the park adjacent, and a pub just down the road.

Definitely recommend Ferry Meadows, were there for Christmas this year. We stayed at Knaresborough  couple of years ago, they have their own on site bistro that does Xmas dinner and dogs are allowed in the conservatory bit at the front...although not sure
about for Christmas Day. Great walks along the Nidd river .

The Crown & Trumpet in Broadway lets you have dogs in certain places in the Pub.  For sure by the fire Happy
