Advice On Touring Scotland (Distances)

We are planning on visiting Scotland next year.  We will be travelling from the North East our first stop will be at St Andrews to visit our daughter.  Our main destination is Ledmore in the North West. Does anyone have any experience with regard to approximately
how long it will take to get between St Andrews/Dundee and Ledmore.  If we need to stop would Invernes be about the correct place?

We prefer quiet CL's so if anyone has any recommendations they would be welcome (Don't need facitlites and prefer to keep the cost down as I will be a full time student next year).
