Running a fridge on 12v

Can you run a fridge on 12v? We stayed on a non electric site recently and used gas to run the fridge on, it stopped working when we moved onto the next site. Unfortunately our man who services our motorhome is away and we were due to go away for 3 nights
again on a non electric site. We have a solar panel and wondered if we could run the fridge on 12v with the solar panel.  I know manufacturers state you can only run on 12v when you are traveling but woundered if this would be different if you run it through
the panel. Any advice out there? Thanks.
