Re: What are you all up to
Did you know there was an earthquake up our way last night? We never felt it, but at 4:15 I did hear noises and rumblings- cows out! Somehow one had loosened a bolt on a gate. Nothing makes a farmer run than hearing “cows out”. It was supposed to be OH’s day for a lie in. Never mind. Worse things happen at sea. As they say.
Re: What are you all up to
Took MiL to the chiropodist today as OH still not fully recovered. When I collected her she told me that he had taken her blood pressure. I naturally asked why as he was supposed to be cutting her nails.
She said he had been to a care home that morning as normal. Staff were nowhere around so he just proceeded to Mrs.Jones' room. She was ready for him, lying on her bed so he took her socks off. It was then that he found out she had died. A member of staff burst into the room and apologised for not letting him know. 😮
So he was making sure MiL had a pulse before proceeding.😁
Re: Chatsworth Site Closing
Those pictures are hardly representative. The site looks distinctly under used, on a wonderful looking day, and all sites can be made to look great in those conditions. We are all different and our views and opinions about sites (as well as lots of other things) will vary. You can have your view, which I respect even if I do not agree with it, and I can have mine. But what I really want to comment about is your notion that:
"Surely Chatsworth is such a unique site that what some might see as issues don't really impact on a stay?"
Issues will always impact on a stay to some degree, but I take you to mean that the site being close to Chatsworth House and park is enough of a positive to not let the negatives get us down. I love the house and grounds, the villages of Edensor and Pilsley, and all the history that goes with them, but the positive was nowhere near enough to overcome the problems when I stayed and I hated the site. Even if you regard this balancing act as debatable, it is definitely not a notion that is worthy of being prefaced by the adverb "surely", which implies that there should be no doubt about it.
Now if you were talking about Baltic Wharf I might have agreed with you. An absolutely awful, cramped, unitdy and crowded site, rendered worthy of visting, as I did many times, because of its proximity to the city, the floating harbour and all related attractions, without the need for buses, trains or cars. Even then, the many downsides that Baltic Wharf had still had some impact; it is a crying shame that it has now gone.

@DSB sorry to hear you are struggling with cold and chest infection. Hope the antibiotics work quickly for you and you can get some rest soon. Also I hope Carol is doing well now.
@Bakers2 I have decided to try another cactus next time we go to the garden centre. I did see some pretty ones there last week. I will use your helpful advice and ignore it! 🤞🏻🤣

£32 p.p to visit the house and garden ? No way. I don’t subsidise well heeled dukes.
Re: What are you all up to
Bliss reigns at Wherenext Manor this morning as the Ladies have walked around to the Village Hall for a Christmas Fayre (does it make it extra special if you have a y in fayre?). Supposed to be raining this morning but its clear at present with a chilly air. Long may it continue as we've had too much rain this week as well. I'll probably go out after this coffee and put some water in the van for a 1 night get away early next week.
Hope you enjoy your holiday @Takethedogalong and that the weather deteriorates for you as I know you like going off piste in the Jeep when it snows.😂 Not often you can wish someone bad weather on their hols but they are weird.😁
Re: 2025 Monthly Open and Closed CL List
Remember, TDA, that like you and I, 'MikeyB' is apparently not a club member so the issue won’t really bother him in that guise.
Three Quarter Length Shorts
Inspired by another thread......
Can anyone explain what these things are about?
These are the garment that are halfway between shorts and trousers. They are like trousers, but end halfway between knee and ankle.......like trousers that have badly shrunk.
Do the wearers hope to get a tan on the lower few inches of their legs? Could they not make their mind up between trousers and shorts that day??
MrsH and I refer to them as "Dork-shorts".......because the wearer looks such a dork.
Can anyone explain them? Does anyone admit to wearing them??
Traffic sign which made me think.
I probably shouldn't say this, but this sign caught me out as one I am not familiar with, I had to cheat by looking at my Sat Nav to tell me the speed limit for the road I was on.
Before I give an answer apart from "cheating" like I did, what speed would you do?
This is for an "A" road before entering an averaging speed camera section.I was towing a van at the time, and then solo for a couple of days.
